The Church of Saint George the New was erected between 1705 and 1706 by Prince Constantin BrΓncoveanu, whose remains were placed in a crypt inside. In 1936, Oscar Hann, the Romanian sculptor, erected a stone statue of the Romanian prince in front of the church. The church was greatly damaged in a fire, but was restored in 1853. The elements of the BrΓncoveanu style were preserved.
